MY PERFECT TEACHER
EXPLAINS
KARMA
The complete
virtuous action of living in the morality
abstaining from stealing has four happy
results:
(1) the fully ripened result: You will receive a good rebirth in
the body of a happy migrator being in the human or deva
realms instead of rebirth in the suffering lower realms.
(2) experiencing the result similar to the
previous cause: In
the future when you are reborn in the human realm, you
will be wealthy and will not experience poverty.Even the
wealth you have wont be taken away by others, and you
will have full freedom to use your wealth with out being
be possessed by others, thus lacking complete freedomto
enjoy it as you wish.
(3) the possessed result: In the place where one is reborn in
the human realm in the future there will be plenty of
food, drink, and so forth. The means of livelihood will
be easy to come by, and the place will have none of the
following unpleasant results: scarcity of sustenance of
all kinds; crops and fruit that are very scarce and
difficult to cultivate; crops and harvests that are
easily destroyed by worms, rodents, insects, rot,
floods, and droughts that cause crops to wither up and
disappear. Although it may appear that killing the
insects, rodents, and so forth that eat and destroy
ones crops helps such a situation in the short term,
you can see, however, that one is merely creating
another negative karma of killing, the suffering result
of which has just been explained above. You need to look
for other solutions. The ultimate answer to these
problems mentioned above, therefore, is to practice
morality in this life.. now
avoiding the negative
karma of stealing. Practicing morality abstaining from
stealing is the ultimate solution in order to stop big
floods, hailstorms, droughts, lightning storms,
hurricanes etc.and all manner of natural disasters of
the environment.
(4) creating the result similar to the previous
cause of living in
the morality abstaining from stealing: In future lives
you will again be able to collect good karma by living
in the morality abstaining from stealing. Therefore, you
will be able to stop givingharm to others and to
yourself in this way.
The complete virtuous action of
living in the morality abstaining from sexual
misconduct has four happy results:
(1) the fully ripened result: You will receive a good rebirth in
the body of a happy migrator being in the human or deva
realms instead of rebirth in the suffering lower realms.
(2) experiencing the result similar to the
previous cause: You
will be able to rely on the loyalty of your family,
friends, and acquaintances. Also, other people with whom
you are in contact, servants, employees, etc., will not
upset or annoy you. Your family, friends, and
acquaintances will not turn into your enemies or bring
disharmony to your mind. Your wife or husband or other
companions will not compete with you or have opposing
wishes. The people who surround you, including your
employees and others, wont hinder you but will instead
support you, their wishes being in accord with your own.
By considering the specific results of abstaining
from sexual misconduct, you can see that all the
quarrels and fights, the disharmonious minds, are the
results of sexual misconduct. Therefore, it is clear
that the ultimate solution to avoid all these problems,
to have others be only helpful and harmonious with you,
whether your wife or husband, your sole life companion
or other people, is to create good karma living in the
morality abstaining from sexual misconduct.
(3) the possessed result: The place where you are born in the
future will not be a muddy environment with lots of
dirt, filth, excrement, and bad smells; it will not be a
sad and depressing place. Your environment in the human
realm will be a very clean, healthy environment filled
with beauty.
(4) creating the result similar to the previous
cause of living in
the morality abstaining from sexual misconduct: In
future lives you will again be able to collect good
karma by living in the morality abstaining from sexual
misconduct. This means you will continue to practice
Dharma and will stop giving harm to others and to
yourself in this way.
