Born in England in 1943 and brought up in London, Tenzin Palmo intuitively
developed a strong yearning for the East and solitude. Following the dictates of
an inner voice to seek Perfection she journeyed to India.
On her twenty
first birthday, three weeks after meeting her teacher, Khamtrul Rinpoche, she
became one of the first ever Western women to be ordained as a Tibetan Buddhist
nun. Determined to pursue her path to perfection, she went to Lahoul remote
region of the Himalayas where she stayed in a monastery for six years. In 1976,
seeking more seclusion she entered a cave, situated at 13,200 feet, where she
engaged in further profound meditation practice. The cave was to be her home for
the next twelve years.
She left her cave in 1988, moved to Italy and shortly
after began her next project - to build a Nunnery dedicated to help woman
achieve spiritual excellence. For the past three years Tenzin Palmo has been
travelling the globe teaching from the fount of her profound wisdom in order to
raise funds for the Dongye Gatsal Ling Nunnery project.
